About Langford

Langford is the fast-growing centre of the West Shore, the cluster of communities west of Victoria along the Trans-Canada Highway. Over the past few decades it has grown from a quiet suburb into one of the busiest commercial and residential hubs in Greater Victoria, with new neighbourhoods, a lively downtown core and major sports facilities.

Sport and recreation

Langford has made recreation a big part of its identity. Starlight Stadium hosts national-level rugby and soccer, and the city has built sports fields, a large aquatic and recreation centre and a dense network of trails. Up the hill, Bear Mountain’s golf courses and resort look out over the region. Langford Lake and nearby Florence Lake are local favourites for summer swims and paddling.

Goldstream

Just north of the city, Goldstream Provincial Park is one of the region’s natural treasures. Old-growth cedars and Douglas firs shade the river, and every autumn chum salmon return to spawn, drawing bald eagles and visitors in large numbers. Trails lead to Niagara Falls — the Goldstream one — and a historic railway trestle.

Downtown Langford

Langford’s downtown, centred on Goldstream Avenue, has filled in with apartments, restaurants, breweries and shops, while the big retail centres near the highway cover the everyday needs of the whole West Shore. The Galloping Goose Trail passes through, giving cyclists a car-free route east to Victoria and west toward Sooke.

Getting here

Langford is about twenty-five minutes from downtown Victoria, traffic permitting, and borders Colwood and Metchosin to the south. The highway climbs from here over the Malahat toward the Cowichan Valley.
