About Qualicum Beach
Qualicum Beach is a small seaside town perched above a long, open beach on the east coast of Vancouver Island. Its compact village centre, gardens and slower rhythm have made it a favourite with retirees, artists and visitors looking for a peaceful base in the Parksville–Qualicum region.
The village
Qualicum Beach’s village sits on a hill a short walk up from the water, with a cluster of independent shops, cafés, bakeries and galleries around its streets. The Saturday farmers market brings local growers into town, and the Old School House Arts Centre showcases local art and hosts classes and exhibitions. Flowers and hanging baskets make the village especially pretty in summer.
The waterfront
Below the village, the waterfront walkway follows the beach with benches, sculptures and views across the Strait of Georgia to the mainland mountains and the nearby islands. It is a lovely place for a sunset stroll, and the wide, shallow beach is popular with families at low tide.
Gardens and waterfalls
Milner Gardens & Woodland, on the edge of town, offers a heritage garden and old forest on a bluff overlooking the water, with a tearoom in the historic house. Inland, Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park has trails along a rocky canyon with cascading falls, and the Horne Lake Caves are a short drive north.
Getting here
Qualicum Beach is about forty minutes north of Nanaimo on Highway 19, and ten minutes beyond Parksville. The scenic old highway continues north along the coast toward Bowser and Deep Bay.
