About Comox

Comox is a seaside town on a peninsula across the estuary from Courtenay, with a busy harbour, a sheltered marina and wide views of the Comox Glacier and the Beaufort Range. It is home to a large air force base and the valley’s airport, and its relaxed waterfront makes it a favourite place to live in the Comox Valley.

The harbour

Comox’s marina and harbour area are the heart of the town, with fishing boats, pleasure craft and a waterfront park and walkway. Restaurants and shops in the nearby downtown make it easy to spend an afternoon. Goose Spit, a long gravel spit at the edge of the harbour, has a beach and views across the water to the mountains.

19 Wing and the air force museum

Canadian Forces Base Comox, home of 19 Wing, has been an important part of the community for decades, and search-and-rescue and patrol aircraft are a familiar sight overhead. The Comox Air Force Museum and its outdoor heritage air park tell the story of military aviation on the West Coast.

Filberg Park and festivals

The Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park, a waterfront estate with a log lodge and gardens, hosts one of the valley’s best-known summer events, the Filberg Festival of arts and crafts. Other parks and beaches, such as Kye Bay near the airport, offer sandy shores and summer swimming.

Getting here

Comox is about ten minutes from downtown Courtenay. The Comox Valley Airport has flights to Vancouver, Calgary and beyond, and a BC Ferries route from Little River connects to Powell River on the mainland.
