About this event

The Nanaimo Blues Festival has grown into Vancouver Island's go-to blues weekend, staged on the downtown waterfront at Maffeo Sutton Park with the Harbour City's working seafront as a backdrop. Run by the Nanaimo Blues Society, the festival brings a genuine mix of international touring artists and top Canadian blues talent to an open-air stage, with each day building toward an evening headliner. Expect everything from Texas soul and New Orleans second-line rhythms to Chicago blues, zydeco and roots-rock across the weekend.

What makes it special is the setting and the scale: big enough to draw serious names, small enough to feel like a community gathering. Between sets you can wander to food vendors, a beverage garden and artisan craft stalls, or step a few metres to the seawall, the harbour and the boat to Saysutshun (Newcastle Island). It is an easy festival to build a weekend around — Nanaimo is the ferry and highway hub of the mid-Island, so it is quick to reach from Vancouver or anywhere on the Island, and the walkable Old City Quarter and Commercial Street are right there for meals and a pint. Ticket options usually range from single-day passes to discounted three-day early-bird passes, so it suits both dedicated blues fans and casual drop-ins visiting the mid-Island.
