Cumberland Fungus Fest

The Cumberland Fungus Fest is a quirky and captivating four-day celebration of fungi and forest ecology, held across the village of Cumberland from October 1 to 4, 2026. Now in its seventh year and organized by the Cumberland Community Forest Society, the festival turns a shared fascination with mushrooms into an interdisciplinary program of presentations, guided forest walks, films, a lively Science Pub, a Fungus Bazaar art night and craft market, and hands-on activities for children. It is equal parts science, art and community gathering, drawing mushroom enthusiasts, naturalists, families and curious first-timers into the forests and halls around Cumberland. Expert-led walks help attendees identify and understand the fungi that thrive in the area's coastal woodlands, while talks and screenings explore the surprising and vital roles fungi play in healthy ecosystems. Proceeds support the Society's work protecting, stewarding and educating about the Cumberland Community Forest. A festival pass covers the weekend's core events, with youth and child pricing available, and some special activities such as guided walks and the Science Pub may carry an additional cost. Set in one of the Comox Valley's most characterful villages, surrounded by trails and forest, the Fungus Fest is a genuinely original autumn outing for the whole family.
